Tel Aviv, Achad Haam Street
Image from the book: Jewish Palestine: A Celebration of the Yishuv
The image shows the southern side of the section of Ahad Ha’am Street one block west of the Great Synagogue. The first building on the right is Adler House, whose ground floor was built in 1909, making it one of the oldest buildings in the city. The second floor was added in the 1920s. When the photo was taken, the retail units in Adler House housed the Bromberg Gents’ Tailor and a (possibly connected) Cleaning and Ironing Workshop. More recently, Adler House was dismantled and its restored components were eventually returned to the site, where the reconstructed building is now overshadowed by a substantial tower block. The next building along is the Palatin Hotel, which is currently being restored and refurbished and is scheduled to re-open in 2025.
